Dawn Song Children's Centre

About us

Our Centre
Dawn Song is a Community based Pre School and Long Day Care Centre located in the picturesque Bellinger Valley on the NSW Mid North Coast. We have serviced the local community with quality care for over 24 years.
We cater for 2-6 year old children, Monday to Friday, with long day care hours from 8am – 6pm, Open 50 weeks of the year. We engage a maximum of 18 children per day, providing a childcare environment that is nurturing and inviting, catering for the individual. The small group allows for family grouping where siblings are able to be kept together and where there is no separation of age groups into different rooms.

Our Program
During the day we provide a Pre School Program and an Early Years Program catering for the different ages and stages of development, using flexible spaces and open-ended materials. We pride ourselves in providing an environment that gives every opportunity for the child to express their thoughts, feelings and ideas through creative expression. We plan the daily activities based on observations of individual children and in response to children’s interests and strengths.

Our Environment
Dawn Song provides an environment that is safe, nurturing and home-like. The room is filled with natural light and furnished with natural materials and resources. Our unique octagon shaped room provides an unlimited list of possibilities for creative and imaginative minds. Popular activities include baking, craft, dancing, games, stories and cultural activities. Outside, our yard is green and lush with lots of space for playing, running, inventing and exploring to entice and excite our early learners. We have a large sensory garden with stepping stones and balancing beams where Children enter a magical world and connect with nature and where objects of nature provide an array of investigation and interesting treasures that children can use in their play. We have a vegetable garden where the children love to nurture their veggies, cook with their produce and create compost from food scraps to nourish the garden. We have a large sandpit which the children use in wonderful, open ended and creative ways and is home to the best chefs, engineers, fishermen and farmers.

Our Educators
We are a small Centre and as such we have a small and personal team of educators. Our team consists of highly skilled and qualified professionals that are passionate about providing quality care. Our small and committed team consists of:
Director – Early Childhood Degree (Bachelor of Education), 25 years experience
Two full time Educators – Diploma of Children’s Services (Early Childhood Education and Care)
Two casual Educators – Certificate III Children’s Services
Administrative Officer – Wednesdays and Fridays
Our team are first aid trained and experienced in diabetes, asthma and anaphylaxis management. We are also experienced with special needs children both with physical disabilities such as cerebral palsy and the needs of children with more emotional and social challenges such as autism.
Our team are continually updating their skills and qualifications to keep up to date with the management of children’s behaviours and the changing needs of the children in our community.

Staff and Family relations
All our educators, even our casual staff are familiar to the children and parents and this creates a consistent and secure environment for the children. The staff get to know the children very well and this influences the program for individual children as well as the group. This personal relationship extends to parents and families who are able to discuss with staff their child’s progress and gain feedback about their child’s day and share information on a regular basis.

Disabled Access
Our Centre is wheel chair accessible with large wide ramps into the Centre and to the rear yard. Our ramps were purpose built for children with special needs with easy access to the yard and play areas with ample space for walking frames and wheel chairs as well as handrail access especially designed for young children.

Management Committee
Dawn Song is managed by a volunteer parent and community Committee. Parents are encouraged to join the management committee to have their say and provide suggestions and feedback on how the Centre operates. It is a great way to get involved in your Child’s education.
