Dawn Song Children's Centre

Our Philosophy

We would like to acknowledge the traditional Custodians  of the land, the Gumbaynggirr people,  on which we learn together.

Dawn Song offers a nurturing & loving, home like environment for children.
We recognise, value and support the uniqueness of each child and respect their individual skills and abilities, their home and cultural background.

We believe that during early childhood learning is best developed through play. We recognise and respect that children need to develop a sense of Belonging, to family, place or community, a sense of Being, respecting who children are right here and now & Becoming, aiming to reach their full potential and dreams for the future.

We provide a range of creative, active and open-ended experiences with simple natural resources which encourage creative play. These facilitate children’s development into happy, healthy and confident individuals with independent, enquiring minds and dispositions for later learning.

We believe that our educators are a vitally important factor in the provision of quality care and education. We highly value the staff’s diversity of skills and input into the uniqueness of the service.

We will develop respectful and caring relationships with the children and their families, and this will help us to provide the best possible care and education for the children who attend.

We believe in fostering and maintaining strong partnerships with families and the broader community. We invite and welcome families to share skills and knowledge with us. We aim to provide a high quality community service which meets the needs of the local community and is inclusive to the needs of the wider community.

We believe in the importance of providing aesthetic and engaging environments and learning centres. Our educators will facilitate and support all children to develop creativity, imagination and problem solving skills as well as independence and autonomy. Our Image of the child is one of capability and competence.

Our wonderful outside play area provides us with the opportunity to connect with nature and this we use as a tool for learning about our world, its wonders and its needs. We use nature and seasons as provocation for our experiences both inside and out and our program reflects this connection to nature. We believe in educating for sustainability and respect for all living creatures.

We believe that children need to be nurtured in healthy, non toxic surroundings and therefore endeavour to maintain a chemical free environment.
We value and respect every child’s right to have access to nutritious foods and encourage healthy food choices with an emphasis on fresh and whole foods.

Dawn Song values the use of locally sourced materials and will endeavour to use local resources and supplies from local businesses and services where ever possible.
